Danny Moves is back at The Sports Column for his third article about himself and his life. The first was about creating a Dan Hurley-inspired dance move; the second chronicled how he got a “free” ticket to Game 4 Knicks-Spurs at The Garden; and now, his third is “Wondering in New York.”
Danny on the impact of attending Game 4 at The Garden….
Yeah, I was a Del Shannon fan back in the day. I loved his great song, Runaway, memorialized in the epic film American Graffiti (1973, video here of Shannon singing the song), which (the film, that is) was released in the same year when the Knicks last won an NBA title.
Words from that song kept playing in my head: “I wonder, I wo-wo-wo-wo-wonder why, Why, why, why, why, why?” So, being at Game 4 got me “doing a Shannon” (AKA wondering).
I wonder about Victor Wembanyama, specifically his sleeping arrangements. Do they have to go to a special hotel for an extra-long bed? Seriously.
I also wonder about Stephon Castle and his magnificent, gravity-defying hair. He must have a hair stylist on call. I notice that Devin Vessel has the same look. Who got there first? None of the Knicks have this style, but they love wide headbands.

I wonder about the fans in the front row who paid God knows what for tickets. Shouldn’t The Garden arm them with cushions so they can protect themselves from diving players? Perhaps we could collaborate on something.
I wonder what Larry David and John McEnroe would be like sitting together. It would be fun to mic them and listen to their commentary. They would bring in an entirely new audience.
I wonder if they should make the baskets higher and the court bigger. Seems logical since the players are only getting bigger. I know it’ll never happen, but can’t a guy wonder?
I wonder about subtracting points for air balls.
I wonder about the locker rooms; they look like television studios. I also wonder about the shower situation. With all the money being thrown around, it can’t be a group thing anymore, right? They must have private quarters, right?
Anyway, I do a lot of wondering. Some people play; I wonder.
Go, Knicks!
