ESPN will telecast Sunday’s fight at 8:30 PM Eastern from College Park Center in Arlington, TX.
Turhan is 14-0 (8 by knockout) and recently defended her world title with a unanimous decision win over Gabriella Tellez. Baumgardner’s pro record is 18 (7 by knockout)-1-1 (no contest). In April, she defeated Bo Mi Re Shin at MSG via unanimous decision. Her lone loss came by split decision to Christina Linardatou in 2018. Baumgardner redeemed herself five years later with a unanimous decision win over Linardatou.
Baumgardner and Turhan both favor the left hook, and experts predict plenty of counterpunches and defensive scheming. Turhan, a southpaw, excels in power and delivers punches that can end the night for her opponents. Baumgardner is the quicker boxer and can maneuver quickly in and out of punches.
Baumgardner is familiar with the DFW area because she trains there with coach Derrick James. James, a high-profile trainer, has also worked with Errol Spence Jr., Jermell Charlo, Ryan Garcia, Anthony Joshua, and Frank Martin.
Turhan will look to end the fight early, and Baumgardner will need to counter Turhan’s deadly left hook.
