The national championship is scheduled for later this year.

Motorsports have always been popular. Not just with car lovers and racing fans. The sport is growing, and the INDY 500 is always a major event. The motorsports industry is now looking at universities.

It was started as an engineering program for campus motorsports. Business and engineering majors participate in the Collegiate Racing Series (CRS). Over 80 schools compete for a national motorsports championship. Prominent participants include Clemson, Cincinnati, Rice, Fordham, and Texas-Austin. The 2026 CRS championship weekend will take place December 18-20 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida.

About Matthew Paris

I grew up an avid Houston sports fan. After graduating from Texas Tech University in Theater and English Literature I worked as a marketing rep and coach for I9 Sports, coaching baseball, flag football, soccer, and basketball. I’m currently with Austin Sports Academy as a marketing coordinator, baseball and football coach, and coordinator of middle school and high school open play nights. I’ve written three short films for Looknow Productions and have also written articles on film marketing, producing, and directing. I really enjoy writing about sports and being an active contributor to The Sports Column.
