Beckham’s Signing? It’s a Giant Joke

Odell Beckham, Jr’s signing is nothing more than desperation or nostalgia. It shows once again why the Giants just don’t get it.

We’re talking about a once-proud franchise that has won only one playoff game since winning the Super Bowl. Coaches, executives, and players have come and gone. Draft picks have turned out to be busts. Kicker Josh Brown was employed until the league suspended him. Too many players have reflected poorly on the franchise on and off the field.

None of this has changed despite the Giants hiring John Harbaugh as their head coach. Dexter Lawrence was sent packing for asking for an extension after outperforming his contract, quarterback Jaxson Dart thought it was a great idea to associate himself with President Donald Trump at a Rockland County rally, and now the Giants have brought Beckham back.

They signed Odell Beckham Jr. last week in a make-good deal. He embarrassed the organization after being drafted, orchestrated his departure, and took shots at the team on his way out.

Yes, this is a depth move, and there’s a good chance Malik Nabers may not be ready to start the season after suffering a torn ACL in September. No matter, the Giants can do better than signing this jerk. There were better guys out there in the free agent market. They probably should have drafted a wide receiver had they known Nabers would not be ready to play.

Beckham did not play last season, so that tells you how teams feel about him. Teams care more about production than behavior, and he was not productive enough in recent years. At 33, he is who he is at the back end of his career, and the last time we saw Beckham, he posted nine receptions for 55 yards without a touchdown in what was a forgettable Miami Dolphins stint.

He did play for Harbaugh with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. He had three touchdowns and 35 receptions for 565 yards as quarterback Lamar Jackson’s wingman. But to expect him to duplicate that again is unrealistic. Dart has yet to show he’s an NFL quarterback, so this fit still does not make sense.

Beckham’s signing should tell you that Giants general manager Joe Schoen has no idea what he’s doing. He misread Nabers’ situation and overcompensated by signing a washed-up receiver.

Is Beckham the team’s No. 1 receiver on the depth chart? What a joke! That is why it’s hard to take this team seriously as a Super Bowl contender.

Let me put it this way to you, Giants fans. The Eagles, Cowboys, Seahawks, Rams, or any other Super Bowl contender is not worried about Beckham’s return.

His signing is nothing more than desperation or nostalgia. It shows once again why the Giants just don’t get it.
