In a world where sports serve as a powerful catalyst for unity and empowerment, the recent collaboration between the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is a shining example of the transformative potential of sports partnerships.

The alliance, forged on community engagement, leadership development, and inclusivity, enriches the tennis industry and inspires positive global change.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Epsilon Epsilon Zeta Chapter members and Youth Auxiliaries participants were introduced to the United States Tennis Association’s Red Ball for All activities on the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

Rosemarie Pinto, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and Epsilon Epsilon Zeta Chapter Lead Youth Advisor says, “Witnessing the collaboration in action between us (Orlando Zetas), the USTA, and the USTA Florida Section was genuinely inspiring. I look forward to the positive impact we can create together in the short and long term.”

On a bright Saturday morning at the bustling USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, a diverse group of individuals gathered to celebrate National Volunteer Recognition Day in a unique and impactful manner. They were led by the USTA’s National Community Outreach team, including Senior Manager Tony Stingley and Community Outreach Managers Darian Banks and Louis Bolling, alongside the esteemed members of the “Exquisite” Epsilon Epsilon Zeta Chapter (EEZ or Orlando Zetas) of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. The event symbolized the convergence of sports and service.

LaShonda Royal, President of the Epsilon Epsilon Zeta Chapter, said, “Today’s collaboration with the USTA goes beyond the court, and it embodies our sorority’s commitment to health, fitness, community service, education, and empowerment. Today’s event exemplifies the positive outcomes that arise when organizations unite for a common purpose. With over 125,000 initiated college-educated women, Zeta represents diverse careers ranging from businesswomen, elected officials, educators, doctors, nurses, military, and attorneys. We are excited to harness this potential and pave the way for meaningful collaborations that benefit our members and the broader community.”

Billed as Teach, Tour, and Tennis with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. at the USTA National Campus, the Volunteer Recognition Day celebration highlighted the sorority’s diversity and inclusivity, showcasing its auxiliary programs tailored to women of different ages and interests. From Archonettes dedicated to high school-aged young ladies to Pearlettes mentored from a young age, the organization nurtures a culture of leadership, scholarship, and community service.

The day’s agenda was thoughtfully crafted to blend a tour of the facility and on-court tennis activities alongside mentorship and engagement activities, creating an immersive experience for participants of all ages and backgrounds. As students and chapter members received USTA Junior Team Tennis backpacks and Net Generation giveaways, the gathering buzzed with excitement and anticipation for time spent learning and camaraderie.

Dr. Yvelle Lee, USTA Senior Director and Digital Program Manager of Community Tennis, looks at it this way. “Tennis can transcend barriers and inspire individuals to reach their full potential. Opportunities like today allow us to amplify our reach and create memorable moments for personal and collective growth. Tennis has a remarkable way of breaking down barriers and igniting the potential within each individual. It’s not just about hitting a ball; it’s about building character, fostering camaraderie, and empowering individuals to excel both on and off the court.”

“By working hand in hand with tennis and USTA, we can expand our reach and create lasting opportunities for youth development. Together, we can build a strong foundation for the future of sports and community engagement,” Pinto concluded. “This collaborative effort is especially impactful for the girls being served by our sorority, as it provides them with access to valuable resources, mentorship, and opportunities for personal growth. Through sports like tennis, we empower these young individuals to develop essential skills, build confidence, and foster a sense of community and belonging. Together with the tennis community, USTA, and USTA Florida, we are shaping a brighter future for these girls, equipping them with the tools they need to thrive both on and off the court.”
