Rowdy Fan Behavior Mars Cross-Country Race in Norway

Cross-country skiing is meant to be an enjoyable sport with a sense of intensity. But a different storyline–a drunken brawl–emerged at the 2024 Oslo 50K Women’s Cross-Country Skiing race.

Fans were seen going after the police, and a few managed to breach a fence, disrupting the race. One-hundred thirty people had to get medical attention during the day, and Sweden’s Frida Karlsson, the first-place finisher, was met with a boos as she crossed the finish line. “It was certainly ungrateful,” Karlsson said after the race.

Sporting events are meant to be fun, and it’s on the fans to act maturely.
