Tennis Clinic a Positive Step for West Lakes District’s Health and Wellness Initiatives

Last weekend, the Black History Month Health + Fitness Tennis Clinic at the Rock Lake Neighborhood Center in Orlando brought together participants of all ages and skill levels, fostered community engagement, and celebrated health and wellness.

The clinic, which coincided with the 75th Anniversary of USTA Florida, marked a milestone in promoting diverse fitness opportunities in the West Lakes District.

The Winter Park Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, contributed to the success, as did the USTA National Office Community Outreach team based in Lake Nona. Also involved was Rico Thompson, a United States Tennis Association (USTA) trained tennis instructor. “I was honored to share my time with such inspiring young individuals! I hope that the clinic provided an additional fitness outlet for some and a lifetime pursuit for others,” said Thompson, an avid tennis player and retired veteran.

Beneficiaries were thrilled with the day’s outcomes. “I can’t wait for another clinic because my kids, Bryson Georges (9) and Pearson Georges (7), enjoyed learning the basics and really seemed engaged,” said Samson Georges.

The Beyond Four Foundation, led by Asia McMillian, and recent Orlando Business Journal Under 40 awardee Sade Battle were also strong supporters. McMillian played a crucial role in creating the marketing materials, connecting the event to Orlando City Commissioner Regina Hill.
