A Softball Team Named After My Sports Podcast

, ,

It’s an honor and a great experience to see the team play.

I’ve been writing for many years. I’ve written books and produced short films and episodes. I also write all my episodes of The Matthew Paris Show, a sporting news podcast started by the late sports producer and podcaster Dan Dave Harris. Dan was based in London, England, and he told me once that sports was his life savior. Sadly, Dan is no longer with us.

I’ve coached for fourteen years and am now a sports coordinator at Big League Dreams in League City, Texas. Part of my job is recruiting new teams for our league night. I made friends with the coaches and players who play at the park. I asked a player named Socrates Gutzman and Julian to start a new team. Later, I discovered they were fans of “The Matthew Paris Show.”

The two asked me to make a team based on your podcast. What would the name be? First, the team would have been called The Matthew Paris Show. However, the two players who would be the coaches and I felt it was too long.

The team would be called “The Matty P’s”. The team started as an adult softball team for slow-pitch softball. The team played their first season on Tuesday nights and made the playoffs. “The Matty P’s” now play on Monday nights at the ballpark.

We’ll see if the team can make the playoffs.

About Matthew Paris

I grew up an avid Houston sports fan. After graduating from Texas Tech University in Theater and English Literature I worked as a marketing rep and coach for I9 Sports, coaching baseball, flag football, soccer, and basketball. I’m currently with Austin Sports Academy as a marketing coordinator, baseball and football coach, and coordinator of middle school and high school open play nights. I’ve written three short films for Looknow Productions and have also written articles on film marketing, producing, and directing. I really enjoy writing about sports and being an active contributor to The Sports Column.
