Hey, Travis: Focus on the Task At Hand (Football)

, , ,

It’s another successful season for the Super Bowl-defending Kansas City Chiefs. KC is 6-2 going into today’s game in Germany vs. the Miami Dolphins, and the Chiefs are not only the AFC West’s top team but they are tied with three other teams for the AFC’s best record. But wait! There’s a problem.

Is star tight end Travis Kelce focusing too much on his personal life? Kelce is dating pop sensation Taylor Swift, and photos of the two together have wags writing and the rumor mill buzzing.

That said, the job at hand for TK is football. The Chiefs have a lot on the line this season, and off-the-field matters can be distractions.

While most of us can’t imagine the situation Kelce is in, I believe it’s closer to your world than you think. Let’s say you are a high school student, and you’ve been asked out by a girl you have a crush on. Okay, that’s great, but the ACT exam is coming up, and you have your eye on a college with demanding admission standards. You have to do well on the exam to have a chance of getting in.

So, what do you do?

Option A: You go on a date rather than boning up on the ACT.

Option B: You decline, at least for now, hoping to reschedule the date after the exam.

That’s very much like Kelce’s situation, except his “test” is football. Meanwhile, everything about this off-field romance serves Swift well, a world-status personality at the top of her game. She’s crushing it. So it comes down to Kelce’s choice. Can he compartmentalize aspects that many others would find difficult, if not impossible, to do? That’s the big question.

Well, an old saying says, “The proof is in the pudding,” and the next serving comes today against the 6-2 Dolphins, another team with a lot to play for. The Dolphins are atop the AFC East, and they are tied with KC as the AFC’s best (by record) team.

Big game, you say? You bet! Stay tuned.
