Young Tennis Sensation Triumphs at Oglebay

15-year-old Amiya Bowles won recently at the esteemed Bordas and Bordas West Virginia Open Women’s Championship. 


Amiya Bowles graced Wheeling Oglebay Tennis Club in Wheeling, displaying her extraordinary talent and etching her name into tennis history. The #1 seed from Columbus, OH, beat #2 seed Bethany Yauch of Pittsburgh, PA, in a three-set, three-hour contest.

The win came as no surprise. Bowles is ranked #14 nationally, #3 in the Great Lakes region, and #1 in Ohio, and she is also ranked in the Top Ten by Tennis Recruiting for the class of 2026.

Her state, regional, and national standing, plus the West Virginia win, has analysts comparing her to Arthur Ashe.

Amiya Bowles: Securing a win on the hallowed grounds of Oglebay is a dream come true, and to be mentioned in the same breath as legends like Arthur Ashe is an honor beyond words.

Bowles was accompanied in Wheeling by her father, Baradino Bowles, who doubles as her coach and trainer.
