Memo to Phillies: Discontinue $1 Hot Dog Night

, ,

The promotion was great in theory but a disaster in reality.

Buy a ticket to the Phillies-Marlins game and get a hotdog for a buck. About 58,000 hotdogs were purchased–and you would think that is enough–but vendors ran out of hotdogs. Fans weren’t happy. They began throwing trash, fights broke ou, and the home team lost the game.

What was supposed to be a fun night wasn’t.

I think the Phillies should discontinue the $1.00 Hotdog Night. $1 isn’t bad for a hotdog, which costs $7.50 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, but the presumed fun night turned into childish behavior and a ton of debris to clean up. The stadium staff doesn’t deserve to be treated poorly by the fans.

The moral of this story? Be respectful when you attend a sports event. Even if you don’t get a big break at the food stand, you’ll still have a great experience.
