Syracuse Orange Look Strong in Women’s NIT, Columbia Next

The Third Round match-up is scheduled for Friday night in New York City.

2022-2023 won’t be the magical run the Syracuse women made in the 2015-16 NCAA tournament when the Orange made it to the championship game before losing to UConn. But don’t discount the meaning associated with what the 20-12 Orange are accomplishing in this year’s National Invitation Tournament.

SU will face surprising Columbia (25-5) Friday night in the tournament’s Third Round. The Orange got there by beating Kent State and Seton Hall, while the Lions beat two nearby schools, Fairleigh Dickinson and Fordham.

Is an NIT championship in the offing for Coach Legette-Jack’s Orange? If so, look for Teisha Hyman (10.5 PPG., 4.1 RPG) and Georgia Woolley (12.3 PPG., 3.9 RPG) to lead the way, along with the dynamic Dyaisha Fair (20.0 PPG., 3.5 RPG). The trio combined for an even 100 points in the Orange’s two tournament wins.

Friday’s game is set for 7p Eastern at Francis S. Levien Gym on the Columbia campus. You can view the action on ESPN+.
