Friday’s Collision Course in Women’s Basketball, Gamecocks vs. Hawkeyes

, , ,

It’s the NCAA Championship game … two days early.

It would take a Kobe Bryant-type performance or an eighty-point plus performance from Caitlin Clark for the Iowa Hawkeyes to prevent South Carolina’s Zia Cooke (15.1 PPG, 2.0 APG), Aliyah Boston (13.2 PPG, 9.8 RPG) and Kamilla Cardoso (9.7 PPG, 8.4 RPG) from advancing to the national championship game.

But with her “Mamba” mentality, you can never count out Caitlin Clark. She delivered a season-high 46 points in a regular-season game and had a spectacular triple-double in the Elite Eight (41 points, ten rebounds, 12 assists).

While it’s asking too much to expect eighty-four points from her against USC on Friday night, we can expect Clark to do whatever it takes to win, along with teammates Monika Czinano (17.2 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 1.4 APG) and McKenna Warnock (11.1 PPG, 6.0 RPG).

The problem is that Clark and company will have to do it against the defending national champs and the team that is the odds-on favorite to win the tournament again this year.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this game goes down to the wire, perhaps with a couple of OTs thrown in. Watch it on ESPN, 9p—Friday night, from the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
