Houston Dash Make NWSL Playoffs, Then Bow Out to KC Current

The future looks bright for Houston’s professional women’s soccer team.

The Houston Dash is Houston’s professional women’s soccer team. Affiliated with the MLS’s Houston Dynamo, the Dash play in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

Playing since 2013, the Dash won the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup and were the league’s Community Shield Runners-up, too. But the team had never made the NWSL playoffs until this season.

In the eight-team 2022 playoffs, the #4-seed Dash (10-6-6) played the #5-seed Kansas City Current in the quarterfinal round at PNC Stadium in Houston on October 16. The Current prevailed, 2-1, advancing to the semi-finals whether they beat the regular-season champ, OL (Seattle) Reign. KC’s run stopped there when #2-seed Portland beat the Current on Saturday, October 29, to claim the 2022 NWSL title.

Things are looking up for pro women’s soccer in Houston, and I do not doubt that the Dash will soon bring a world title to Houston.
