Former MLB star, once living a troubled life, pens book about life change.
Standing 6′ 6″, Darryl Strawberry was a once-feared Major Leaguer, his presence in the batter’s box reminiscent of Red Sox great Ted Williams. He made his debut with the Mets in 1983 and led the New Yorkers to a 1986 World Series championship. Later, he played for the crosstown New York Yankees and played on two more WS winners in 1996 and 1999.
But even with success, Strawberry lived on the edge, suspended three times for substance abuse. Many said–and with abundant evidence–that as great as he was on the diamond, Darryl Strawberry never achieved his full potential.
That was then. Today, Strawberry is a changed person. A born-again Evangelical Christian, he has gone public about how his life has changed, appearing on the Trinity Broadcasting Network and The 700 Club.
Daryl and his wife Tracy Strawberry run Strawberry Ministries to lead people to Jesus and help them grow in their faith. Strawberry’s entire story is told in a book he penned, Turn Your Season Around: How God Transforms Your Life.
I knew that Darryl Strawberry had trouble during his MLB career. I was out of high school one year when he started playing in Major League Baseball. Now, I’m from the west coast, California to be exact. I am a big baseball fan. I don’t follow it as close now as I did back then. But, I watched a lot of games and went to a bunch of Oakland A’s games. Strawberry was a great player and I always hoped he would clean up his act. It’s nice to see this happen.
