This “Malcolm in the Middle” Star is a Race Car Driver, Too

, ,

It’s Frankie Muniz.

Malcolm In The Middle ran from 2000 to 2006, and Frankie Muniz was one of its stars. Muniz earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his work. He later starred in movie roles, including Agent Cody Banks (2003) and Racing Stripes (2005).

Muniz has had a second career, too, one that he has been passionate about ever since childhood. In 2008, he put his acting career on hold to pursue an open-wheel racing career.

Then, in 2001, Muniz drove the pace car for the Daytona 500 in 2004, and that’s where he met Dale Earnhardt, one of his idols. The meeting further sparked his racing interest. Muniz ran the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race in Long Beach as a celebrity participating, finishing seventh.

Muniz then looked at joining a racing team as a co-owner. He was granted a test in a race car and did well enough to sign a two-year deal as a driver with Jenson Motorsports. Muniz competed in 14 races during the 2006 Formula BMW USA season. He also participated in the Formula BMW World Final in Valencia, finishing 29th.

Muniz made his stock car racing debut at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, California, and also competed in the SRL Pro Late Model series. As late as this January, Muniz drove in the ARCA Menards Series test at Daytona International Speedway.

From Malcolm in the Middle to the driver’s seat, that’s Frankie Muniz.
