Running the Cap10k Race

, , ,

The Cap10K is the biggest race in Texas, and it is the 6th largest 10k in the nation.

Back in 2019, I was excited about the Cap10K race held in Austin, Texas. The “Cap” stands for Capitol because the race is run in Austin, the capital of Texas. I had run the 2018 race and had so much fun doing it. It’s my favorite race to run in Austin because of its friendly, but competitive, environment.

I remember waking up early on race day in 2019. I dressed in racing gear, got my bib number, and drove downtown. A blue steak of lightning appeared on the way, and it started raining as I got closer to downtown. Soon it was pouring rain. When I checked the racing update, I got awful news–the race had been canceled.

No big deal, I thought; I’ll register again next year. Well, once again the Cap10k race was not to be. COVID intervened, and no race was run in 2020 or 2021, although you did have the option of doing it virtually.

So that’s what made 2022 so exciting. The Cap10k race is back and with 15,000 runners, too!

I usually have a strategy when I run a race, but I was just happy to run this race. I enjoy running and viewing downtown Austin along the way.

As I walked up to the starting line last Sunday, I noticed a huge American flag positioned a few feet away from the starting line. It was a honor for me to run under the flag of the greatest nation in the world, representing not only Austin but also the great state of Texas. The hardest part of the run is located right behind the state capitol. It gets a little hilly over there, and a few runners decided to walk it. But I persisted.

As soon as I crossed th4 finish line at the Palmer Events Center, I knew that it was all worth it. How great it was to have my favorite race back again!
