Katie Meyer’s Loss Extends Well Beyond Sports

, , ,

The passing of the former Stanford soccer star has touched people across the nation.

Katie Meyer was a soccer star. She was an exceptional soccer player with Newbury Park High School, Century Academy, Real So Cal, Eagles Soccer Club, and the U16 Girls’ national team. Meyer made another national mark when she played college ball for the Stanford Cardinal, where she was team captain for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Two weeks ago, Meyer was found dead in a residential housing facility on the Stanford campus. Several days later, Santa Clara County issued a statement saying that it had determined it was a death by suicide with no indication of foul play.

Katie Meyer will be missed by those who knew her and followed her. I grieve her passing.
