Washington Commanders, NFL’s Newest Moniker

, , ,

Being in limbo with “The Washington Football Team,” franchise management has decided on a new nickname, the Commanders. Both welcomed and criticized, the new descriptor succeeds a moniker that, while beloved by many, was reviled by others.

The Commanders unveiled a fresh uniform, featuring a military-inspired motif. The home uniform retained the historic colors of burgundy with gold and white stripes, but the letters now have a gold base. The team name, Commanders, is placed above the numbers.

Helmet styles are to be determined. There is the burgundy helmet with “W” on each side and a gold strip on top. The black helmet has uniform numbers on each side.

The Washington NFL team was established in 1932 and won Super Bowls under the “Redskins’ name.

While there is much ado about the new name and uniform styles, the bottom line is how the team performs on the field. Let’s see what the team does next season.
