You may have seen Kelly Stafford, Matthew’s wife, going down to the field to embrace her husband–and also to share tears.
Matthew and Kelly met at the University of Georgia. They began dating and eventually married. Then came the NFL–the Detroit Lions, specifically–but Stafford was never able to do in Detroit what he has accomplished in one season with the Rams.
In 2019, Kelly underwent a grueling 12-hour surgery to remove a tumor from her brain after she began suffering vertigo. The tumor was the size of a walnut, and surgery was in order to remove it.
Kelly Stafford went public with her tumor, posting her diagnosis. Surgeons were able to remove the tumor successfully, and she has recovered from what was a terrifying ordeal.
Congratulations also go to Kelly. She deserves a championship ring, too.
