On “Dr.” Joe Rogan

,

Rogan has been spreading misinformation during a pandemic.

There has been controversy recently about podcast host Joe Rogan. Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and others have pulled their music from Spotify because of a $100 million deal the streaming service made with Rogan’s podcast.

Why is this a big deal? Rogan has been spreading COVID-19 misinformation.

Consider this example. When UFC owner Dana White tested positive for COVID-19 in December 2021, he contacted “Dr. Rogan,” who told him to take Ivermectin, a drug that the FDA has warned about not using as a COVID-19 treatment. Earlier, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers took Rogan’s advice and used Ivermectin.

Rogan has apologized for spreading misinformation, and he has also vowed to take a more judicious approach in the future. While I’m happy Rogan is contrite and that he is also taking responsibility for his speech, I believe Rogan needs to embrace facts: the COVID-19 pandemic is real and it isn’t over.

I urge you to listen to your doctor before taking any drug/treatment to treat COVID-19.
