49ers, The Gold Standard Again?

Are the 49ers primed to regain the mantle of greatness?

Can the 49er defense of Nick Bossa, Arden Key, Azeez Al-Shaair, and Fred Warner do to the Packers what they did last weekend to the Cowboys? If so, they’ll get revenge from the Week 3 loss to Green Bay, 30-28. That’s the big question in yet another regular season + postseason match-up between two elite teams.

The most recent meeting between the teams in the postseason was in the 2020 NFC Championship game. That year, the 15-3 49ers beat the 14-4 Packers, 37-20. The 49ers also won the 2019-20 regular-season matchup, 37-8.

In 1998, the 49ers lost a regular-season game to the Packers, 36-22, but won the post=season game, 30-27.

This time, Green Bay is favored by 5.5 points at home in a high-stakes game with the winner going on to play for the NFC Championship.

For the 49ers, the stakes are even higher. The Packers have sustained success recently, while San Francisco has experienced episodic success. Is the 49er franchise poised to become the gold standard of the NFL once again? That possibility requires winning Saturday night’s game.
