Sunday’s Surprises in the NFL

,

Here are a few things and teams that caught my attention from Sunday’s NFL games.

First of all, I don’t think anyone expected the Detroit Lions to win. They gathered only their second victory of the season and did so a little impressively by beating the highly ranked Arizona Cardinals. It wasn’t a slim victory either, as the Lions handed the Cardinals their fourth loss of the year, 30-12.

The New York Giants woes continue this year, undoubtedly due to Glennon’s three interceptions. If I didn’t know better, I’d think he just wanted to lose and maybe the season to be over already because he was giving the ball to the Dallas defense like they were part of his receiving corps.

I don’t think anyone expected Houston to win, but I don’t know if anyone knew what to expect when the Texans met up against the Jaguars on Sunday. Trevor Lawrence’s rookie debut tour continues as he gathers NFL experience. It was a game that somebody had to win, so perhaps the veteran knowledge of the Houston Texans carried them beyond Jacksonville.

I’m sure no one saw the Saints winning in Tampa against the Buccaneers given the disparity of their records and other obvious reasons–perhaps except the Universe explaining. See, the Saints have two “holy” numbers quite distinctly showing, and taking their Seventh victory out of the hands of (based on the mascot alone), those rowdy, rapscallion Buccaneers. We know Holy Saints should always take victory over rough invading Pirates, and New Orleans went to Tampa to get that done.

As for the Steelers and the Titans, Tennessee is missing a huge piece of their offense in Derrick Henry, and you never know what to expect out of Pittsburgh these days. Everyone knew it would be a tougher road ahead for Tennessee without Henry, and the Steelers enduring spirit showed itself on Sunday.
