James Jr. Is Bringing the Hagler Name Back To The Ring

A famous name will be back in the boxing ring in just over a week. James “Savage” Hagler Jr.-Marvelous Marvin Hagler’s grandson and the son of boxing promoter James Hagler–will fight on November 6th. Hagler Jr. comes into the bout with a 2-0 pro record. I sat down with Hagler Jr. recently to talk about the Hagler name and boxing.


McElwain: Describe the Hagler clan in one word.

Hagler Jr: “Tough.”

McElwain: What do you want the Hagler clan to be known for?

Hagler Jr: I want us to be known for our hard work and dedication. No one gives us enough recognition.

McElwain: What is your fondest memory of your late grandpa?

Hagler Jr: The one-on-one time I spent with him.

McElwain: How are you feeling ahead of your upcoming fight?

Hagler Jr: I’m feeling good about it.

McElwain: Describe boxing in one word.

Hagler Jr: “Art.”

McElwain: Who do you want to face in the ring next?

Hagler Jr: I want to face Muhammad Ali’s grandson next.

McElwain: What is your advice to anyone trying to make it in sports?

Hagler Jr: My advice is to be disciplined and work hard, and not trust everyone.
