Will Buffalo Bills Wind Up in Austin?

, , ,

Probably not, but people are speculating about the possibility.

The fly in the ointment is the Pegulas’ (Bills’ owners) wanting a new stadium funded by way of a public-private partnership. That’s ‘corporate talk’ for wanting the public to fork over tons of money to make it happen. According to a report published Tuesday in the NY Post, “if (Terry) Pegula can’t come up with a deal by the end of the year, he will seek other alternatives so the Bills can relocate before the lease expires.”

Texas is football mad, of course, and the hope (perhaps dream) is that the deal will fall through in Western NY and the owners will look for alternatives. San Antonio has long expressed interest in an NFL franchise and, now, Austin is in the spotlight. Here’s the story.

Austin City Council members say that they have not been approached by the Bills to relocate the team, and the question remains how serious this could get. Rumors have it that the Cowboys’ Jerry Jones is dead-set against having another franchise located in Texas.

Of course, only time will tell. But this could be an interesting ride in the meantime.
