Mithun Pranav Nabs Gold and Bronze in International Youth Chess Tournament

Pranav won Bronze in the individual competition and Gold in the team competition.

Last weekend more than 850 players from 15 countries participated in the Western Asia Youth Online Chess Championship. Organized by the Sri Lanka Chess Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation, the tournament was conducted in Tornelo Chess Platform with a time control of 15 minutes and addition of 10 seconds increment for all players.

The event was video conferenced and monitored by two cameras via ZOOM.

Mithun Pranav of Vellore represented India and won Bronze in the Under-08 category/individual nine-round event. In the first and sixth rounds of the tournament, Pranav drew with two players from Iran. He also defeated players from Sri Lanka, India, Syria, and Iran. In the last round, he drew against another Indian player. He did not lose a single game, which helped him secure 7.5 points out of 9 rounds.

Pranav also won Gold in the Under-08 Teams Category.

In tournaments leading up to last weekend’s event, Pranav won Gold at Tamil Nadu State Chess Championship and Silver at the National Chess Championships, both in the Under-08 category.
