McDonald’s All-American Game Showcases High School Basketball Talent

, , , ,

MacDonald’s is one of the largest retail chains for fast food. MacDonald’s has also been in the sports game since the late 1970s. Basketball is the Golden Arch’s game.

Since 1977, the MacDonald’s All-American Game has been a showcase for outstanding young basketball players. It begins with a basketball camp, and the game features teams representing East and West. Future NBA superstars Magic Johnson and Albert King headlined the very first All-American team. More headliners followed, including Isiah Thomas and Dominique Wilkins in 1979 and Michael Jordan in 1981.

The list goes on. LeBron James played (see below), as did Alonzo Mourning and Kobe Bryant (cover photo). Many future WNBA players participated on the women’s side.

To be selected as a McDonald’s All-American, nominated players must hold senior standing in high school and be in good academic standing. The 2020 and 2021 games were canceled due to COVID-19. But players were selected. See below for the 2021 selectees.

Will the Game return in 2022? Time will tell.
