“Donda,” An Original Script (Scene Five, Finale)

, ,

The final scene of Donda opens with Donald living in the woods one month after he left town due to his golden touch. He’s trying to cook a skunk over an open fire as No Child Left Behind by Kanye West plays in the background. Dionysus hikes by and sees Donald, who also has a long beard and a fur coat on.

Dionysus: Donald?!

Donald: Dionysus?!

Dionysus: What are you doing in the woods?! You’re a basketball legend!

Donald: Who has hit rock bottom! I made a horrible mistake, Dionysus! I had an awesome family and sports career, and I threw it all away because of money. Can you take away this golden touch, please?!

Dionysus: Yes, I can. {He snaps his fingers, and everything that Donald has touched throughout the script turns back to normal.} But there is something that I have to show you.

{Dionysus and Donald walk back into town, and they see a bunch of poor people, some at the brink of death. Donald looks on and is shocked at how many people have no food or water or clothes or money}

Donald: What am I doing with my life? I forgot what it means to be a celebrity. To give and gain at the same time.

Dionysus: The first thing I want you to do is to take this bag of food {He pulls out a takeout bag.} And give it to that man over there.

{Donald walks over to the homeless man, bag in hand.}

Donald: Excuse me, sir? I know this bag might not be much, but here you go.

Homeless Man: {Extremely grateful for the bag of food.} Thank you, sir! I wasn’t sure how I was gonna eat tonight!

Dionysus: {Noticing a man with no blankets.} Now take this blanket and give it to that man over there.

Donald: {Blanket in hand.} Sir, this blanket is for you. It’s not much. But I hope it helps.

Homeless man two: {Crying tears of joy.} Thank you! This is awesome!

Donald: This feels so good. I haven’t felt this happy in a while!

Dionysus: That’s how giving is supposed to make you feel! {He pulls out a quarter.} Now take this quarter and put it in that woman’s cup.

{Donald does as he’s told, and the woman starts crying tears of joy.}

Woman: Thank you so much, sir! 25 cents was all I needed for the bus! {She pulls out a picture of a young girl.} This is my daughter, and I was saving up some money to go and see her this week. Thank you!

{Donald and Dionysus continue to walk as a businessman is seen crying by a hospital.}

Donald: What’s wrong?! Why are you crying?!

Businessman: It’s my daughter! She has cancer, and the doctors are saying that unless we can raise $100,000 for treatment, she only has a week to live!

Donald: How about I cover the costs of your daughter’s treatment?

Businessman: Really?
Donald: Yes. I’d be happy too. {He pulls out $200,000 in cash and gives it to the man.} Make sure that she gets the best treatment ever.

Businessman: Thank you! Thank you!

Donald: {Remembering that it’s North’s graduation day.} Dionysus! North’s graduation starts in one hour! We won’t make it in time!

Dionysus: {Using his magic to make a chariot.} I have my ways of helping.

{Dionysus and Donald rush to the high school where North is graduating as Come to Life by Kanye West plays in the background. North, Saint, Chicago, Psalm, and Kim are all there. Donald runs into the school and gives his family the biggest hug ever.}

Kim: Donald?!

North: Dad! You made it!

Donald: I am so sorry that I hurt you guys. Being an athlete isn’t about gaining things like championships and money. It’s about giving while you gain. Can you guys ever forgive me?

Kim: I forgave you a long time ago, Don.
North: We all did.

{We cut to a press conference where Donald is announcing his retirement from basketball.}

Reporter: What are you gonna do now?

Donald: Well, I think I’ll start a charity with my funding for the theme park. While a theme park inside a stadium may be a good idea for an alternate universe, it’s not right for this one. A wise man once told me, ‘You need to give more instead of gain more.’ I would also like to take this occasion to announce that my daughter, North East-West, is now a Harvard freshman at the top of her… {His phone starts ringing.} Wow. Sorry guys. That’s embarrassing. I thought I had this thing on silent. {He answers the call.} Hello?

Governor Lee: Mr. West! The damage from the floods in Tennessee is too severe for us to repair on our own! We need your help!

Donald: I’ll be right there. {He hangs up the phone.} Sorry, guys. Duty calls.

{The crowd of reporters cheers as New Again by Kanye West, and Chris Brown plays in the background as the credits roll.}
