Fitness supplement company drops sponsorship of The Arnold Classic.

The Arnold Classic competition is held annually. Started by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the competition features some of the best bodybuilders in the world. This year, though, the competition is making headlines for something very different from bodybuilding. It’s about Schwarzenegger’s comments about COVID-19 and how Americans are responding.

During a recent CNN interview, Schwarzenegger called anti-maskers “smacks.” and then added an expletive for emphasis. In response, fitness supplement company REDCON1 pulled its sponsorship from the event.

REDCOn1: To be clear, we did not pull out of the event because of a mask issue. We understand the importance of public safety as well as the responsibilities of all event organizers. These are unprecedented times, and we’re aligned with public safety for all. We elected to discontinue support due to Arnold’s comment, ‘Screw Your Freedoms.”

A company rep went on to say that Schwarzenegger’s comments were ‘anti-American’ and didn’t reflect the values of the brand.

While I agree that Schwarzenegger’s comments were a bit much, he does have a point. In this pandemic, responsibility to others trumps freedom of choice. I believe that you are responsible for wearing a mask for the sake of your family, friends, and fellow citizens.
