Mithun Pranav Qualifies for Asian Schools Chess Championship

Pranav qualified by participating in the National Schools Under-9 Open Chess Championship 2021 conducted by the All-India Chess Federation (National Chess Federation of India).


Pranav finished 7th among 500+ players.

The tournament was conducted on July 13-14 for the Under-09 category and comprised nine rounds of Swiss games. Each game had a time control of 15 min and 10-sec increments for each player. The games were monitored by Arbiters over Zoom with screen sharing, audio, and video-enabled in all games. The tournament, which was conducted online on the Tornelo Platform,  saw 542 players participate in the Under-09 Boys category.

Mithun emerged with a score of 7.5 points in 9 rounds. Eight players were tied up with the 3rd highest point total, and Mithun placed 7th overall using the Tornelo Tiebraking system. By qualifying, Pranav will be able to participate in the Asian Schools Chess Championship 2021 Under-09 Boys category, which will be held on July 29-31.

The Asian Schools Chess championship will be conducted by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP). Each national federation, which can register only top players in respective categories, will be conducted as a Swiss system competition of 9 rounds with online supervision according to FIDE Regulations.
