Mattel: America Needs an NFL Barbie Doll

,

It’s time for a Barbie football doll.

Dear Mattel:

Barbie has been around since 1959 and has inspired many girls. But last week, when I looked for a sports Barbie for my little sister’s birthday, I was disappointed to see one stereotypical softball player Barbie. Unfortunately, Online wasn’t any better, either.

Sure, there were multiple sports options for Barbie, but the only thing that I could find for football was a rugby-playing Ken doll.

That’s why I’m asking your company to create an NFL Barbie toy. The reason is that people all over the country want equality for women, but there are still stereotypes about what women can and can’t do. The creation of this toy would break that stereotyping.

Besides, girls are getting more involved in football, including women serving as placekickers, referees, and assistant coaches. The toy I’m requesting would inspire the NFL to expand opportunities for women.

Please consider seriously what I am proposing.

Sincerely,

Kadin McElwain
