In Boxing Surprise, YouTuber Turned Prize-Fighter Logan Paul Goes Distance with Floyd Mayweather

, ,

Sunday night’s outcome surprised experts who were expecting Mayweather (50-0 during his pro career) to make quick work of newcomer Paul.

Last night, former pro boxer Floyd Mayweather took on internet personality Logan Paul in an exhibition match that felt more like a championship bout. Most of the post-game stats favored Mayweather, but no official winner was declared–even though ESPN scored the fight 78-74 Mayweather–in a fight that went the full eight rounds.

But Paul came away as the winner of this tussle–a winner in that he lasted with Mayweather and a winner in the eyes of millions of YouTube fans who in his corner. Paul, who is younger and heavier than his opponent (26 vs. 44 years/190 vs/155 lbs), showed boxing skills that surprised Mayweather.

Floyd Mayweather: He’s better than I thought he was. I was surprised by him tonight. Good work. Good little guy.

But Mayweather didn’t take Paul lightly. He landed multiple powerful and quick punches. Paul responded, though, even coming close to putting Mayweather on the canvas.

To me, the bout showed that the aging Mayweather still has his skills from his glory days in the ring–a career that began in 1996. And Logan showed guts, determination, and boxing skills that are turning heads. They are both winners in my book.

“It was the coolest thing ever,” Paul said after the fight. Also, cool will be following these two as they figure out what comes next.
