Hate, hazing, racism, and all other forms of targeted behavior of that sort can’t be tolerated.

Former high school head coach Marcus Wattley and six other coaches were dismissed after forcing a player to eat a pepperoni pizza as punishment. Eating pork is contrary to the player’s religious beliefs. As attorney Edward L. Gilbert put it, “It just crosses a line on every level, it’s just wrong.” It’s a hate crime, too.

As the 2021-22 school year draws near, I hope this story is a reminder that hate, hazing, racism, and all other forms of targeted behavior of that sort can’t be tolerated.
