In WNBA: Is the Dream Alive? Can the Sun Rise Again?

, ,

Yes, and perhaps.

With a 101-95 win Thursday night over a good Dallas Wings team, the answer for the Atlanta Dream is, Why not? The Dream relied on all of Tiffany Hayes’s 26 points as she spun and slashed her way through tough Wings’ defense.

Point guard Chennedy Carter registered her third game over 20 points, and partner Courtney Williams contributed with eight rebounds, five assists, and 14 points. Defense played into the victory, too, holding down the rest of Wings even though the high-scoring duo of Marina Mabrey and Arike Ogunbowale combined for 48 points (24 apiece).

Tomorrow, the Dream will see if it can sustain winning when the team whirls into Brooklyn’s Barclay Center for a 2:00 p.m. tip.

As for the previously undefeated Connecticut Sun, the answer is perhaps. Tonight’s a tall order at home, bouncing back from a disappointing OT road loss to reigning WNBA champion Seattle Storm. The challenge is clear: managing the Mystics’ red hot center Tina Charles, who is averaging 26 points per game. That means the pressure is on Jonquel Jones, DeWanna Barker, and company. Tip time is 7 p.m.
