Shammi Rana, Secretary-General of the International Council of Traditional Sports and Games, has been honored with the President’s Achievement Award 2020.

A United Nations program administered under the auspices of the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, Traditional Sports and Games (TSG) safeguards and promotes sports and games that are indelibly associated with cultural practices around the world.

In 2017, UNESCO appointed Rana as Rapporteur of the Traditional Sports and Games Ad Hoc Advisory Committee. In that work, Rana promotes the UNESCO Mandate on Traditional Sports and Games throughout the world. An example is his work done collaboratively with Sierra Leone to establish an administrative and research secretariat in that African country.

Rana is also working closely with Mr. Scott Wendel, U.S., and Central American Educational and Cultural Coordination in a bid to create the Pan American Council of Traditional Sports and Games. If established, this organization will safeguard and promote traditional sports and culture in America.
