When the Harlem Globetrotters Visited Gilligan’s Island

,

It was a topsy-turvy episode.

Dawn Wells, the actress who played Mary Ann in the iconic Gilligan’s Island TV program, died last Wednesday from COVID complications. She was 82 years old. Her passing reminded me of one of my favorite episodes from the show. It was when the Harlem Globetrotters visited Gilligan’s Island.

The Globetrotters were having plane trouble on their way to a game and made an emergency landing on the Island. The Castaways welcomed the Trotters with open arms and soon played basketball with the visitors.

Things turn downward when one of The Millionaire’s rivals, Pierson, tried to trick Gilligan and Skipper into signing overall ownership of the island to him. But The Millionaire catches on to the plan and makes his rival tear up the contract if the Globetrotters play his team, The New Invincibles. The problem? It’s a team of robots.

At first, The Trotters aren’t sure how to defeat The New Invincibles. But the Professor has an idea. The Trotters should resort to a bag of their on-court tricks. There’s a fly in the ointment, though. Injuries sidelined two of the Trotters, and Gilligan and Skipper have to enter the game as substitutes.

No matter, though. The Trotters win and save the Island!
