Aman Kumar Sharma named Secretary-General, Indian Association of Traditional Sports and Games

Sharma’s appointment is an important step forward for UNESCO, India, and the TSG movement.


Mr. Sharma, who brings considerable experience to the position, is charged with advancing UNESCO efforts to safeguard, promote, and develop TSG and ensure that they form an integral part of national cultural development.

Introduced at a virtual ZOOM meeting, he told those assembled that he would protect TSG from commercializing cultural heritage and values. He will also promote tolerance, mutual understanding, respect, and peace in a culturally diverse society.

An important takeaway from the meeting was that states in India want to collaborate and have an inclusive policy towards involving local games in their sports curriculum.

Among those participating were Ravi Sahu and Deepti Kumari (Maharashtra), Devender Gour, Harpal Singh, and Rajpal Singh (New Delhi),  Gourav (Punjab), Jitesh Bhalla and Parveen Garg (UP), Tarsem Sharma (J&K), Okenjeet (Manipur), Paramesh Mallaiah (Karnataka), Abhay Jamwal (Himachal Pardesh), Sudesh Berry (Haryana), Rajwinder Kaur (Chandigarh) and Amit Choudhary (Bihar).
