The Boy Who Ran and Ran and Ran on Super Bowl Sunday

Maxwell “Bunchie” Young is a name to follow.


You may remember the Super Bowl 54 commercial, The Next 100. The young boy who stared in that commercial is Maxwell “Bunchie” Young. Viewers watched as Young ran past legendary Jim Brown and across America, finally entering Hard Rock Stadium to deliver the ball to Super Bowl referee Bill Vinovich.

Who is Bunchie Young? He’s a two-sport standout in football and track/field. He has blazing speed, and he’s quick, too. Young broke the age 10 world record for the 100-yard dash with a time of 12.4 seconds. In 2017, he was named Sportskid of the Year and was on the cover of Sports Illustrated for Kids. Young has a scholarship offer to play for the University of Illinois.

Born in Los Angeles, he’s also a child of faith. He often writes Bible verses on his arms and is involved in his local church, Love and Live Again. He participates in Bible studies and assists the church’s choir director.

In 2017, he told Essence Magazine. “God’s given me stuff, so I’m giving back.”  Maxwell “Bunchie” Young is a name to follow.

After graduating from Texas Tech University in Theater and English Literature I worked as a marketing rep and coach for I9 Sports, coaching baseball, flag football, soccer, and basketball.
