Three Reasons To Watch Alvin Kamara In 2020

Alvin Kamara is a player to watch as the NFL season unfolds.

The Saints’ Alvin Kamara was injured for a good share of last season even though he suited up for 14 games. Despite physical limitations, Kamara still racked up 797 rushing yards and had 533 receiving yards–in the Top 3 among NFL running backs in receptions (81).

At 75%, Kamara was better than most running backs at 100%. And here are three reasons why Saints’ fans should expect even more from him in 2020.

Adding Emanuel Sanders Benefits Kamara: This off-season the Saints signed 10-year vet, Emanuel Sanders, to a 2-year,$24M deal. It means that the Saints’ offense, which is already one of the NFL’s best, just got a whole lot better.  The move benefits Kamara because it opens up the field. New Orleans already has Michael Thomas, who can lineup anywhere, and adding Sanders opens it up even more. Look for a significant uptick in Kamara’s receptions now that Drew Brees has two outstanding WRs who’ll get plenty of defensive attention.

Kamara Will Be 100%: The only question is whether Kamara can get back to the numbers he had in 2018 when he rushed for 883 yards, caught 81 passes for 709 yards, and scored 14 touchdowns. I think he’ll not only meet those thresholds but that he’ll exceed them. 1000 rushing yards, 1000 receiving yards, 100 passes caught, and 20 TDs aren’t out of the question.

His Rookie Contract Is Up After This Season: It’s the matter of self-interest. In the last year of his rooking contract, Kamara wants to impress GMs and coaches so that he’ll be able to sign a new and more lucrative deal. Of course, the Saints have a vested interest and a big decision to make. Will they re-sign Alvin? That’s a question to monitor all season long.

It all adds up to this: Alvin Kamara is a player to watch as the NFL season unfolds.
