Here Are College Football’s Top Transfer Players, 2020

We’re not sure there will be a college football season this year but, if there is, these three players are the cream of the transfer crop.

3. Trey Sermon, RB, Oklahoma to Ohio State: Trey Sermon decided to transfer to Ryan Day and Ohio State after three years at Oklahoma. An injury halted his junior season, but Sermon was very productive in his first two years as understudy to Baker Mayfield and then Kyler Murray. As a sophomore, Sermon totaled over 1000 yards with 13 rushing touchdowns. But make no mistake about it: Sermon will be an understudy again, playing behind OSU’s Justin Fields. Ohio State needed a talented, experienced back to replace J.K. Dobbins, and Sermon is just that. With his help, the Buckeyes have a chance to run the table in the Big Ten and return to the College Football Playoff.

2. Jamie Newman, QB, Wake Forest to Georgia: Last season, Jamie Newman turned Sage Surratt into one of the country’s best receivers. Now in Athens, Georgia fans are hoping he’ll do the same for soph George Pickens. In his first full season as a starter, Newman threw for nearly 3000 yards and ran for almost 600, and he’s the type of quarterback that Georgia hasn’t seen under Kirby Smart.

Newman’s dual-threat ability separates him from Jacob Eason and Jake Fromm, and it’s a welcome difference, too.

Alabama, which struggles with QBs who can run, is likely to struggle again when Newman is on the field. Newman could be just the man to get the Dawgs over the hump.

1. D’Eriq King, QB, Houston to Miami (FL): What a talent! In his junior year, King had 50 total touchdowns with just six interceptions. He played only four games last season before declaring his intention to transfer, and now he has settled in Coral Gables. With him, the Hurricanes have a chance to win the ACC Coastal–and that’s saying something. Last year, the Canes had the multiple quarterbacks at the helm, and inconsistency was the order of the day. But now that King is at the ‘U,’ dynamism, speed, and accuracy will shine through. Once you pair King with Gregory Rousseau and (Temple transfer) Quincy Roche, it’s easy to see why this Miami crew has a chance to be very good and really dangerous.
