Christian Pulisic is becoming a household name.
Children in the U.S. grow up dreaming of becoming sports stars like LeBron James (basketball), Mike Trout (baseball), and Tom Brady (football)–to name just a few. USA soccer, on the other hand, has never had that level of superstar. Yes, players like Donavon, Howard, and Dempsey have had great careers in European football, but none of them burst onto the scene the way Christian Pulisic has.
Remember that name, America: Christian Pulisic.
The young man from Hershey, Pennsylvania, has lit up both the Bundesliga and, now, the Premier League. He may be America’s soccer answer to LeBron et al.
At only 21 years old, Pulisic has established himself at the top table of European football. After joining Borussia Dortmund in 2015, it didn’t take long for Pulisic to make an impression. He made his first-team debut at age 17 and went on to make 90 appearances and score 13 goals for the German giants. That performance prompted Chelsea FC to acquire his talents for a huge £58 million transfer fee.
That was in January 2019. After initially being loaned back to Dortmund for the remainder last season, Pulisic is now well into his first season in the Premier League. Despite missing games because of injury, Pulisic is now making a huge impression–scoring nine goals and assisting on eight goals in 29 appearances.
Pulisic’s play is drawing comparisons to Eden Hazard, and–not surprisingly–he is hugely admired by Chelsea fans.
