In Premier League, Will 2019/2020 Be Known as ‘The Year of the Reds’?

Anytime there’s a disruption in sports, the season gets remembered for what happened off-the-field, not what happened on it. It will be a crying shame if history books don’t give Liverpool full credit for what The Reds have accomplished this year.

How will the 2019/2020 season be remembered? Will it be remembered for the football played  … or the lack of it because of the pandemic? More specifically, will Liverpool’s dominance be recognized or swept under the carpet?

Without a doubt, this season is one for the history books. At issue is whether COVID-19 will overshadow Liverpool’s imminent (and first) Premier League. Nobody can deny that Liverpool deserve to lift the cup, but raise it they might in front of an empty Kop stand at Anfield. That is hardly how Liverpool fans envisaged winning their first Premier League.

Likely, Liverpool’s title won’t be iconic, but it’s a title nonetheless. Fans are starved of images of Klopp running down the sidelines and celebrating with fans. ‘You Never Walk Alone’ will echo from speakers rather than the from the voices of The Red faithful.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. First, Liverpool have to win the title. If they do (as expected), there will be both relief and pride. And after restrictions are lifted, expect to see a massive celebration along the banks of the River Mersey.
