On Saturday, it was reported that 22-year old wrestler Hana Kimura had taken her own life. In a Twitter post she wrote:

Nearly 100 frank opinions every day. I couldn’t deny they hurt me. “Die,” “you are disgusting,” “you should disappear” I believed these things about myself more than they did. Thank you, Mother, for the gift of life. My whole life I wanted to be loved. Thank you to everyone who supported me. I love you all. I’m sorry for being weak.

Kimura was a successful wrestler in Asia, earning an Ironman Heavyweight Championship at eight years of age. She also won multiple pro-wrestling titles, including The Princess of Wrestling.

Kimura entered the sport at the introduction of her parents, mother Kyoko Kimura, a wrestler, and Isao Kobayashi, an MMA fighter. The younger Kimura was also a reality TV star, appearing in Terrace House: Tokyo.

Her death by suicide isn’t the first suicide death in wrestling. Andre Waters, Mike Awesome, Chris Benoit, and others have taken their own lives.

To those who bullied Hana Kimura, your actions are murderous. Be ashamed! Her parents will now plan her funeral instead of enjoying a future with her. The wrestling industry is to blame, too. There is plenty of pressure in the sport, but very little focus on mental health.

Bullying and suicide have to stop! RIP Hana Kimura.
