There’s No Such Thing as G.O.A.T in a Team Sport

,

Instead, talk GOAT by position.

There can never be a GOAT of any TEAM sport. Never! You can have the GOAT for positions in team sports. But never of the sport overall. There are too many factors involved.

Is Brady GOAT? (photo, Sportsnaut)

Tom Brady? He’s only as good as his O-line, receivers, TE, and a RB out of the backfield. Or take Jim Plunkett. He was drafted #1 by the Pats. He got beat up. He then went to Oakland behind Upshaw, and he had Branch and Biletnikoff. JP then won two Super Bowls.

In baseball, let’s look at the greatest home run hitter. He’s the best at that spot. Yes. GOAT? No. Greatest RBI hitter fits the same bill. Best ever? Yes. GOAT? No.

Then, there’s hockey. Is Wayne Gretzky hockey’s GOAT?? For starters, nobody ever got in his face because his team protected him. He had Coffey and Kurri on the wings.

There’s no way that any athlete in any team sport can be GOAT. So put to bed talk of the GOAT in a team sport. Instead, talk GOAT by position.

Or we can argue that Robert Horry is better than MJ. He made just as many big shots and won one more NBA championship. Worth discussing?
