Shad Gaspard, Wrestling Legend, Dies in California Swimming Incident

,

Authorities believe Gaspard died after being swept into the sea by a rip current.

On Wednesday, the body of wrestling legend, Shad Gaspard was found on the California coast at Venice Beach. Gaspard went missing on Sunday while swimming with his son; both were victims of a strong rip current. Lifeguard rescuers were able to save his ten-year-old son, Aryeh, but not Gaspard. Gaspard was 39 years old.

Gaspard was well known for his time with WWE. As a member of Cryme Tyme, he debuted in 2003 and trained by  Rocky Johnson, who also passed this year.

Gaspard did more than wrestle. He was also an actor and author.

Gaspard made headlines in another way. In 2016, he intervened when an armed man attempted to rob a gas station in Florida. Gaspard took the man’s gun and restrained him until the police arrived.

My thoughts are with the family. RIP Shad Gaspard.
