Jerry Stiller Brought Laughs to Sports

, ,

On Monday, we said goodbye to a Hollywood legend, actor/comedian Jerry Stiller.

In a career that spanned decades, Stiller starred in iconic shows, most notably as George Costanza’s father on Seinfeld. In real life, Stiller and his wife, comedian Anne Meara, mentored their son, Ben, who also became an acting success.

In a classic episode of Seinfeld, Stiller, as Frank Constanza, is sitting at home with his wife when they hear a knock at the door. It’s George Steinbrenner, owner of the New York Yankees (at the time) with horrible news–Frank’s son George Costanza has passed away.

That. of course, wasn’t Stiller’s only comedy connection to sports: He played a grumpy fitness cap owner in Heavyweights, where he has to sell his camp to a guru of fitness, played by son, Ben.

RIP, Jerry Stiller. To show my respect, listen to a disco beat I created in memory of my favorite Stiller role–the manager in Zoolander.
