The Upside-Down Life of ‘Joe Exotic,’ Zoo Owner and Wannabe Pro Wrestler

,

Joe Exotic once held wrestling matches with zoo animals as part of the show.

One of the biggest topics in the wrestling world right now is Joe Exotic, a former zoo owner, country musician, 2016 presidential candidate, and convicted felon who’s serving a 22-year sentence for trying to kill his rival, Carole Baskin.

But Exotic was so paranoid about Baskin that he thought wrestlers were against him. Former wrestling champion Matt Taven and two fellow wrestlers, Jay Lethal and Dalton Castle, were on their way to a show in Oklahoma when they saw advertisements for Exotic’s zoo.

The three went to the zoo, and Exotic’s employees became suspicious after Lethal said he was from Tampa, which happens to be Baskin’s hometown.

Joe Exotic’s story is told in the Netflix docu-drama,  Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness, which was released last month.
