Baseball Is Interrupted, But Memories Aren’t

, , ,

I love baseball. I’m a Kansas City Royals fan. I look forward to enjoying baseball again as I look back on memories of Kansas City baseball. Here’s one from 2014.

I relish baseball for many reasons, and I love Opening Day, especially. It’s the beginning of a long journey.

You may not be the strongest team, but with hard work and some breaks, you could be in the seventh game of the World Series with the tying runner on third base in the ninth inning. That’s what happened to my KC Royals in the 2014 World Series.

We didn’t score, and after the third out, you felt defeated.

But what I remember most about that night was a dad comforting his young son who was crying and saying we had lost. The dad made it clear to the boy that “We’re winners!” The team played hard and made it all the way to the World Series. Many amazing people never win ‘the title,’ he continued. “But that doesn’t mean we should forget their greatness.”

“Remember this day,” he told the boy, “and strive to be the champion.”

It’s funny, as I look back on that night. I don’t remember many details of that game in October 2014, but I remember my husband and I sharing that moment.

Until I can be at ‘The K’ again, I’ll hold on to memories and hope!
