‘Football Potential,’ An Original Screenplay (Scene One)

,

We open on a football field at Westbrook County High School in Iowa. We see football stars on the field as they get ready for the big game. The County Cats are coached by Coach Geoffrey, who approaches the team in a huddle.

Geoffrey: “Alright, guys, so listen up! Here’s the plan. We need to go in this by running up on all the players.” {Points to Andrew, the wide receiver.} “Andrew, you will go up behind the wide receiver of the opposing team and try to catch the ball.” {Points to John, the running back.} “John, you will tackle as many players as you can.” {Points to Geykume, the star quarterback and our main character.} “As for you, Geykume, all pressure is on you to win this for us. Are you ready?”

Geykume: {Filled with pride.} “I sure am.”

Geoffrey: Good. Go Cats! Go!

{Welcome To The Party by Diplo starts playing as the title, Football Potential, is put on the screen.{

The Cats score the first touchdown. The opposing team tries to score the next, but they are blocked by Geykume, who steals the ball and scores another touchdown.

{A timecard pops up reading, ‘Three Quarters Later”}

{It’s now the fourth quarter of the game. We see the scoreboard, and the Cats are in the lead 23-10.}

Announcer: “It’s the final stretch of the big game, and the Cats are in the lead! Geykume Effect has broken a record for the most touchdowns by a player in a single game tonight! But can he win this for his team? Let’s see!”

{The referee blows the whistle to resume action. Andrew passes the ball to John, who makes a trip to the 20-yard line. He tries to tackle a player, but the player tackles him first. So John passes to Geykume, who runs swiftly to the goal and scores a touchdown. Just then, Geykume falls on the field.}

Announcer: {Shocked.} Whoa! Geykume Effect has fallen! Geykume Effect has fallen!”

{Coach Geoffrey and The Cats rush over to Geykume’s aid.}

Geoffrey:{Frantically.} “Geykume! Are you OK?! Oh, man! I’ll call the ambulance!”

{The ambulance arrives, and Geykume is lifted on the stretcher and into the ambulance as shocked fans and his fellow players look onward.}

Announcer: “What should’ve been a scene of victory has turned into a scene of injury tonight, folks. Let’s pray that Effect is OK and that this game wasn’t his last.”

{A time card pops up reading, “The Next Day.” Geykume is in hospital. A doctor walks in.}

Doctor: “Hey. How are you feeling?”

Geykume: “Not good.”

Doctor: “Well, I got good news and bad news. The good news is that you’re not crippled. The bad news is that you’ll never be able to play football again.”

Geykume: {Shocked.} “What?! Why?! Tell me!”

Doctor: “Your Achilles tendon got torn during the game. You could get disabled if you try to play again. I’m sorry.”

{Geykume starts crying. He gets up and runs out of the hospital, lays down on the grass, and cries. He calms down and takes out his phone to call Andrew.}

Andrew: “Hello?”

Geykume: “Hey. So can you please drive me home?”

Andrew: “Yes. What’s up?”

Geykume: “The doc says my Achilles tendon was torn so bad that I won’t be able to play football again.”

Andrew: “Oh, no! That’s no good!”

Geykume: “Yeah!”

Andrew: “At least you’ll get to live that ‘Sports Fast Life.'”

Geykume: “What?”

Andrew: “It’s a club we have. Athletes come together every Saturday for an ultimate party if they’re injured. There’s LSD, magic mushrooms, ecstasy, Percocets, Oxycodone, weed, beer, and a whole bunch of women! You should come to one of those.”

Geykume: {Hesitant} “I don’t know. I can still heal my injury.”

Andrew: {Insisting} “Come on dude! I insist!”

Geykume: “OK. I’ll go.”

Andrew: “Great! I’m on my way to get you, man. Bye!”

Geykume: “Bye!” {He hangs up.} “Sports Fast Life, huh? I might like it!”.

{End of the scene.} To be continued….
