Ronnie Van Zant was into sports.


Lynyrd Skynyrd is a talented Southern rock group, well known for hits such as Free Bird, Gimme Back My Bullets, and the iconic, Sweet Home Alabama. Along with The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd made Southern rock a popular music genre.

Original frontman Ronnie Van Zant was a baseball player. A huge White Sox fan, Van Zant started in American Legion ball. He also idolized Muhammad Ali and considered making boxing a career. In the end, Van Zant decided that music was the best choice.

The original members of Lynyrd Skynyrd, including Van Zant, were killed in a 1977 plane crash. The band reformed in the late 1980s with Ronnie’s brother, Johnny, as lead vocalist.

I was born in Kingston, New York, the second child of Monika Keiper and Matthew McElwain. At age two, I was diagnosed with autism, and I’m currently undergoing therapy to help me have a good life.
